U1 Multi ACE Pro Integration, Stock Firmware, no Soldering

So, theoretically, speed is on par with the H2C now on >4 color prints (6 here). But only theoretically… :slight_smile:

Finally found it after hearing so much about your project. I think together, we can provide a lot more posibilities to U1 owners. Here is my repo and I hope you can give it a glance on the Color Patch mode section, and see if you agree.

Hey, I have of course heard of your project too. Printing with different nozzle sizes is something I have wanted to try for long, but this project takes up a bit more time than originally planned, so my 0.2 nozzles are still sitting unopened in the cupboard.

I will happily take a look over the weekend. It would obviously be nice if my matcher could handle Forca output as well.

I did think about a slicer integration at some point, but decided against it for now, mainly so that a separate fork is not needed for every tool (back then Full Spectrum was still a fork too). But who knows, if you are open to PRs it might be worth revisiting in the future. And if you come up with something you could use from my side, drop me a line.

I’m only just getting used to 8 in 4, it’ll fry my brain having to recognise even more by nozzle size lol

First of all, thank you very much for the great work on multiACE. I am currently trying to run a single ACE Pro 2 on my Snapmaker U1 and have encountered a problem that I haven’t been able to solve despite intensive troubleshooting.

My Setup:

  • Snapmaker U1
  • Latest multiACE version
  • 1× Anycubic ACE Pro 2
  • ACE firmware 1.1.31
  • ACE comes from a Kobra X Combo (not a separately purchased upgrade kit)

Tests conducted so far:

  • The ACE works flawlessly on the original Kobra X.
  • The original 6-pin → 4-pin signal cable from the Kobra X also works without issues.
  • The USB cable was assembled exactly according to the multiACE documentation.
  • I have checked the pin assignment multiple times.
  • D+ and D− were also swapped for testing purposes.
  • Tests were performed both on Windows and directly on the U1.

Problem:
Nothing happens at all under Windows:

  • no USB connection sound,
  • no “Unknown USB Device” message,
  • no VID/PID,
  • no new USB device in Device Manager.

multiACE accordingly reports no ACE found.

Since the ACE definitely works on the Kobra X, I am now wondering whether there are differences between the various ACE Pro 2 kits or the signal cables used.

Therefore, I have a few questions:

  1. With which ACE Pro 2 hardware was the USB connection originally developed and tested?
    • Kobra X Combo?
    • Kobra S1?
    • Kobra 3?
    • Separate upgrade kit?
  2. Does the USB pin assignment come from measuring the original Anycubic cable, or was it determined directly on the ACE circuit board?
  3. Have you personally successfully operated an ACE Pro 2 from a Kobra X Combo via USB with multiACE?
  4. Are you aware of any case where an ACE Pro 2 does not enumerate as a USB device under Windows at all (no connection sound, no VID/PID, no reaction whatsoever)?

I am happy to perform additional measurements or tests if needed. If it helps, I can also provide photos of the original Kobra X cable or further information about my setup.

you need the K3 cable

ACE Pro 2: plug it onto the 4-pin end of the K3 / K3M / S1 adapter cable.

It isn’t part of the combo. It includes an serial to usb converter. Without it ACE2 “speaks” RS485 serial, thats why it doesn’t enumerate on an USB port.

You can order them via Anycubic supoort.

Well it worked, I updated before a 8 hour print and I never had prime tower anxiety, it is the cleanest one I’ve had since owning my U1, solid too,thanks

Okaay.. never linked that to your prime tower problems.. The problem fixed where fat blobs after color changes.. But nice. Looks good, thank you for sharing!

Fat blobs were a real issue, and they stopped after the update, they would cause a lift in the prime tower that the next wipe would make more unstable until it collapsed, still it looks the best prime tower yet, thanks again

Weird one, the other day my number 4 was pulling filament out and pulled the 6mm PTFE Collar out of the toolhead cover, any idea how I make it fixed again, as it keeps coming loose?

Compare to other Toolhead and see whats missing.. If you can‘t fix it that way, ask support, they are great!

Nothing is missing, it has just fully unseated itself, it goes back in ok but is not solid like before and keeps coming loose and feeding filament into the chamber, arghhhhhhhhhh

That looks great. Could this be printed upside down with less support and similar result?

But it was while trying to swap the filament with auto unload that it pulled the snap collet out, so very relevant

Sure, but this is a U1 hardware problem, unless you are somehow blaming the ACE Pro.
