Are there any tutorials or videos on selecting printing speeds?
Snorca has many settings for print speed for various processes, and some filaments advertise ‘High Speed’ printing. How does one interpret and apply the ‘High Speed’ rating of the filament to translate it to the speed settings in Snorca?
If there are none, would the Snapmaker team consider creating a tutorial video?
Break down each setting, why it is important, and tell us how to determine the appropriate value to set it for.
The main limitation on speed is the deposition rate available from the nozzle, for the particular filament you are using and the temperature of the nozzle, in cubic mm per second (mm³/s). However fast you set the nozzle travel (in the speed section of the settings), it will always be reduced to the maximum linear travel which does not exceed the maximum flow rate.
For example, the flow rate in the profile for generic PETG is set to 10 mm³/s (in standard Orca). I ran the flow rate calibration print (see the Calibration tools), and found my PETG would print fine up to 28 mm³/s, so I configured a custom profile for it with that value. I didn’t have to change any speed settings, everything went faster because I had the greater flow rate in the filament profile.
The default settings in the Speed section should be OK as they are, set as the maximum the machine is capable of (but, as noted, automatically throttled back to suit the flow rate of the filament profile).
Just beware that quite a few people had Z step issues following this guys video, to me there’s a big difference between just changing settings to increase raw speed vs taking the time to properly calibrate it to get the best quality/speed when printing?
