Snapmaker U1 High Flow Hotend Beta Testers Calls

  1. We would be interested in the high flow testing. We print at Volumetric flow rate of 15mm^3/s for PETG and 20mm^3/s for PLA and we ususally use PETG and PLA across our four U1 production models. We are currently using PAXX custom firmware but could roll into the new BETA firmware. We print a TON of glow pla and have tested all the hardened steel nozzles up until this point.
  2. We have disassembled and installed the hotends on all four of our U1’s. Have one set of extra toolheads incase of hotend failures (clogs) for easy swap outs.
  3. I have used HF on our P1S units. Not yet on the U1.

Exciting! I’m in.

  1. I primarily use PolySonic PLA, Polymaker PLA Pro, Priline Polycarbonate Blend, and Panchroma PLA Silk — typically at speeds ranging from 12 to 20 mm^3/s, but I often successfully go as high as 28 for rather large prints like orchid pots, custom boxes, and bicycle safety features. I’ve tried 30+ but have so far had perimeter adhesion troubles at that speed. I also print with CF-reinforced nylon, PVB, PETG, and wood-fiber PLA.
  2. Yes, I’ve got experience building printers and installing and troubleshooting all kinds of printer hardware, including hotends. As for tuning, I routinely do test prints such as temperature towers and max-flow calibration tests to optimize my printing with any new filament type. I publish and maintain a popular library of optimized high-flow print settings for PrusaSlicer, and this summer I started one for Snapmaker Orca as well.
  3. I’ve used larger nozzles to increase flow rates; and yes, I have some experience with a Volcano hotend on a Prusa MK2.5S.

I do use the extended firmware for now; but sure, I’m down with using the official beta firmware to test these hotends.

Nice! I will join this!

  1. I’ve printed with PLA, PETG and ABS in my U1, with all the types of PETG and PLA (matte, high speed, high flow), and usually I print between 12 and 23 mm/s depending on which filament I’m using.
  2. Yeah, I’ve replaced my hotends on the U1 recently just because one of the toolheads got stuck after 1500 hours.
  3. Yes, in my old Elegoo Centauri Carbon I experimented the use of a High Flow Hotend

Kind Regards,
Sam Fileccia

Hi Everyone,

We’re developing a high flow hotend for the Snapmaker U1 to unlock its high-speed printing potential. Whether you’re doing batch production or rapid prototyping, this hotend helps reduce print times. Before the official release, we’re looking for a small group of U1 owners to test them through real-world use. Selected testers will receive four 0.4mm high flow hotends and are expected to share their experience and submit a feedback report after the testing period.

:date:Key Dates

• Application Period: 7.27 – 8.3

• Estimated Testing Cycle: 8.17 –9.20

If you’re interested, please answer the following 3 questions in the comments:

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

PLA, PETG, PLA Sillk, PLA Glow, ABS, Wood filamentsVarious flow rates based on filament

  1. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Yes

  1. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

No

Zoe,

I usually print in pla, petg, pctg, abs, asa and have recent started with some pa6/12. Petg is usually cf as is the asa/abs.

Pla i am currently running around 32mm3. Petg/pctg is about 25mm3.

I have replaced all the stock hotends on my u1s several times, from ss to hs and to different nozzle sizes. I have also tuned a .6 and .8 nozzle on the u1. Ive taken the entire toolhead all the way down to individual components and reassembled them.

I i have used various other high flow hotends, including the lukes lab pikas on my u1s. Microswiss and cht on my anycubic and elegoo machines. Currently have .4 and .6 cht nozzles in one of my u1s.

Id love to test out youre new stuff.

1. I mainly use PLA and PETG, sometimes ASA

- PLA is mainly Snapmaker SnapSpeed - here I set the maximum flow to 22 - 23 mm3/s.

- Sunlu PLA HS - here I print at 20 mm3/s.

- When printing with ASA (CC3D, Anycubic, Sunlu) - 15mm3/s.

- PETG mainly Sunlu - maximum flow 14-16 mm3/s

2. Yes, I disassembled and replaced (complete heads no. 2 and 3) I replaced all Hotends with unbranded 0.4 ones from Aliexpress. With 0.4 hardened ones from Juupine, I had to reduce the flow by about 15%

3. No, I didn’t use 0.6, quite the opposite, I tested prints at 0.2 /

I like tests and I apply myself diligently to them. Now I’m testing a new motherboard from you.

Are they only high-flow, or can they also reach higher temperatures > 300°C?

  1. I use PLA for prototyping, but since my primary target is Dentiry stuff, I print quite a bit of PP, PA, PAHT, PC, PC-PBT, both meat and filled. My MVS are between 20 and 26mm^3/s on SM’s standard hardened .4mm
  2. Yes, quite a few times
  3. Not yet, but I’d love to try them, especially if they reach temps higher than 300°c

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm^3/s)?
    • Filaments used: TPU, PLA, PLA Pro, Carbon Fiber PLA, PETG, Snapmaker Silk Dual-Color PLA, Snapmaker Matte PLA, and Snapmaker SnapSpeed PLA.
    • Volumetric flow rate: 20 and 26mm³
  2. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?
    • Yes, I have taken all four toolheads apart to unblock them.
  3. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)
    • No.

Additional Note: I am currently using the paxx extended firmware, but I am happy to move over to the official V1.6.0 beta firmware when available.

  1. What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

Pla, silk pla, pla-cf, Petg, petg-cf, petg-gf, tpu, abs, abs-gf, pc-abs, pvb, abs-fr, asa (and wood filled, metal filled, glow etc etc.).

Mm³/s? I can’t say because I’m currently traveling

  1. Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Oh yea!

  1. Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

Yea but not with U1 yet.

I use every materials

I build my own printers and make all kind of mods so no problem taking anything apart :stuck_out_tongue:

I have used nozzles all the way to 1.5 on a Stratasys Fortus 450mc and now using a Conch 0.6 on my QP4 with flow up to 56Mm³/s with PLA+ and waiting on RapidoX new 100Mm³/s/1000mms to test on new design soon

  1. I use all the popular filaments (PLA, PETG (Normal and HF), ABS, TPU, etc). The flow rate varies by filament brand and type.

When I get a new filament type/brand, I spend couple hours printing some calibration prints to get the best settings, including ideal temp, max flowrate, etc. My objective is to maximize flow rate while keep good quality and proper layer adhesion.

So I have a good baseline of several filament brands and types that I can use for comparison of current hotend with the new highflow version.

  1. Yes, I’ve disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on my printer. I also have other printers that I tinker with.

  2. I do have couple more printers with different hotends. I have a Rapido UHF with and without CHT nozzle - at the moment that is my top speed hotend, reaching ~48mm3 with PLA-HF. For comparison current U1 hotend reaches ~25mm3 on the same filament.

I’m ok using the 1.6 beta firmware

Just saw the note about the required firmware. I am ok with running the necessary firmware for the beta test.

Hello all,
I would be interested in the high flow hot end beta test. I’m willing to install the 1.6 firmware.

  1. Filaments that I use:
PLA - between 16 and 24 depending on brand (overture, polymaker, snapmaker and if it’s a draft project or for quality)
PETG - mostly GEEETECH petg since it’s been so cheap, but low flow rate around 8-10
TPU (mostly 95A )- 3Dhojor, Inland and Overture brand - I go excessively slow with tpu because I value high quality and hate digging it out of any toolhead when it decides misbehave (not specific to the u1) so as low as 2-3.
ABS - depends on brand, Siraha Tech 12, Polymaker 16
ASA - inland and polymaker, between 15-22
    PA 6/12 CF - 6-10
    PC - Insologic 6-10
Overall I prefer quality most of the time so I usually top out around 16 with many limited to well below that depending on the specific filament and the outcome of the calibrations.

2. Yes, disassembled, installed, and tuned at hotend on this and my other printers (Prusa i3, mk4, now mk4s, sovol sv08 and voron 2.4).
3. Yes I have used high flow hotends on my Prusa MK4s (prusa and revo brand) and my sovol sv08 with heavy voron mods (initially microswiss and now a high flow e3d bambu hotend). I gave my voron 2.4 to my brother to make space for the snapmaker (lol, he didn’t want the sv08, but I find it fun to mess with).

I do tend to use mainline orca at this point (I have so many slicing programs for the different printers) but I am also happy to return to using snapmaker orca.

Let me know if your interested and happy to provide more details.

-Mike

Yes, I’ve thought about it and please count me in. I have a few designs that should prove an interesting challenge for greater print speeds.

Just PLA and PETG so far, but no doubt I will use something more exotic when occasion demands. I have only used the stock profile flow rates (except I noticed the flow rate was set slightly too high on the Tina2S in some circumstances).

I have limited experience, just with a Tina2 and Tina2S. Not yet tried to dismantle my U1, but as a life-long tinkerer and professional engineer I have no qualms. I figure having somebody somewhat less experienced on the team will show up things others might not notice or regard as normal.

No. That’s another reason I’ll have an unprejudiced opinion.

PLA PET-g TPU ASA.
The flow rate is the same as standard.
I’ve modified my Ender3. I’ve replaced the hotend in my Kobra 3.
I’ve serviced all my printers.
I once had a CHT clone in my Ender3, but I wasn’t satisfied.

I am also willing to use the requied firmware

I would love to join this Beta Program! I was part of the Top Cover program and the experience of working with the Snapmaker Team was amazing :sign_of_the_horns::sign_of_the_horns:

I currently use PAXX12 1.4.1 for the Panda Breath integration. If selected for the high flow hotends program, I am definitely willing to use the required V1.6.0 beta firmware provided by Snapmaker.

  1. Max Volumetric Speed:
    1. ASA = 15
    2. PETG = 15
    3. PLA = 12; I have tuned my Profile for PLA
    4. TPU = 3.2
  2. Yes
    1. I’ve replaced hotends on the U1; switching to hardened steel as soon as I got them
    2. On my CR-10S I used to do mid-print E3D Revo nozzle swaps to a different size diameter
  3. No

Hello,

I’d be very interested in helping test the new U1 high-flow hotend. I run a prototyping business, and one of my biggest limitations with the U1 has been volumetric flow compared with my X1C. Using mostly SUNLU PLA 2.0+, I’m generally limited to around 18–22 mm³/s on the U1, while my X1C can reliably run around 30–35 mm³/s with a high-flow nozzle.

I’ve been working on, modifying, and maintaining printer toolheads since the Anet A8 days, so installation, tuning, troubleshooting, and providing detailed real-world feedback would be no problem. I regularly use my printers for customer prototypes and production work, so I’d be able to test the hotends across practical jobs rather than only benchmarks.

  1. Mostly SUNLU PLA 2.0+, typically around 18–22 mm³/s on the U1 and 30–35 mm³/s on my X1C.

  2. Yes, I have extensive experience disassembling, installing, modifying, and tuning hotends and toolheads.

  3. Yes, I currently use a high-flow nozzle on my X1C and have experience testing flow limits and print-quality tradeoffs.

  4. No problem to install the beta software :ok_hand:

I hope to be part of helping the community; thanks for the opportunity/consideration!

Hi,

yes, I am interested, thank you for this offer.

Here are my answers:

  • What filaments do you use, and what is your usual volumetric flow rate (mm³/s)?

I am using filaments which are available here in the Czech Republic, mostly PLA and PETG, sometimes TPU and PCTG. The most used brands are: Prusament, Abaflex, Alzament (manufactured by Landu), Elegoo, Sunlu and Creality. For special prints, I used the Woodfill, CF filaments (both PLA and PETG) and Magnetite filament

  • Have you ever disassembled, installed, or tuned the hotend assembly on your printer?

Yes, both for Snapmaker U1 and Snapmaker J1. For J1, I have modified hotends with Volcano nozzles, to.

  • Have you used other high flow hotends? (e.g., CHT 0.6mm brass)

Yes, I have sets of 0.2mm and 0.6mm hotends for U1.
