I would appreciate it if a few folks would try to replicate this issue and confirm that it is not something unique to my operation.
I am having a problem with the setting in Support / Advanced / Interface Pattern.
According to the help link,

Straight lines that swing 45° one way then the other on each successive layer, so the layers cross instead of stacking. This ties the interface together and makes it stiffer under the overhang |

If the Support Type is set to “Normal”, and Interface Pattern is set to “Rectilinear Interlaced”, the pattern does not shift direction as described. Rather, all layers have the same directional orientation.
If the Support Type is set to 'Tree", the pattern shifts according to the description.
The regular Orca slicer behaves according to the description.
I am creating a model in PETG with a significant overhang, and am using PLA for the support interface following the process described in the video at

For my own reasons, I would prefer to use a rectilinear grid for the support base rather than a tree.
I have made a couple of short demo videos available.
This interface allows only one active link, so I have unformatted the address above and one of the ones below to get around that. You should be able to copy the plaintext link and reconstruct it.
