Multiple small Items

Hi all,

I’m really happy with my Snapmaker 2.0 but if I want to print multiple small items, I’m going nuts  If I print them one by one, there’s no problem, but if I combine them I’m getting this as a result:

I tried it by “binding” them together by small lines, getting same result. Same by adjusting speed and other settings, even changing filament types. It’s quite annoying printing one by one instead of printing them all together.
Has anyone similar problems or better a solution ?

The bed is not very level and when you print more items you move away from the middle of the bed. Make sure you are using 5x5 levelling set from the console. There are lots of other threads on bed levelling on this forum indeed it’s been the main topic for some time!

Hi @stewl,
Thank you for your advice. I read those posts many times and calibrated the bed also several times. But that did not help. :frowning:

Some questions:

What are you printing? PLA?
What temperature settings are you using (bed & nozzle)
What exactly are you printing? Those outlines are weird for multiple separate items (why all the walls first and not the first layer of item one, then first layer of item2 etc)

You did the bed calibration. Did you also calibrate your e-steps? (looking at the disconnects between the bottom layer and the walls, you might be underextruding a bit and overcompensating that by printing too close to the bed for the first layer)

Teaching tech has a nice walkthrough. I would do the e-steps first and then the first layer tests:

when those two are ok, you should be able to get the majority of your prints working as expected.

Try to pre-heat your bed to the printing temperature and let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then do calibration.

In the original post, he said

If you use Cura you can print one item at a time.
Saves a lot of time on travel and also usually improves results.
Cura will automatically space the items out so the head doesn’t run into them.

Is your bed clean? Nozzle temp hot enough? Calibrated extrusion? All of these in addition to calibration can affect adhesion.

Switch to a glass bed. I am getting the same results when using the stock bed. Go to a 320x320 or 300x300 glass bed. Make double sure to manually level the bed before printing.

agreed glass bed is such a night and day improvement

you can also print a fifix to calibrate with, but the link is gone?

@stefix did you take down the fifix on thingiverse or did something happen to the link?

What speed do you print the first layer?
I use about 8-12mm/s depending on the model size.
Extrusion width of the first layer to 120% could also be helpful.

Be sure to clean your bed before every print with isopropyl alcohol or something similar.

Should your model be full except the numbers inside?
I guess this is mainly a Slicer issue, because it didn’t complete the inside before moving to the next model.

My slicer tends to print the walls of each item before doing infill

I think that is what happened above, just the walls around the numbers in the top corner didnt stick to build sheet
