Idaho Cribbage Board

I’m brand new and bought one of these ready and willing to devote a lot of time to honing the craft, I just need some help. I want to make a cribbage board of the state of Idaho for my dad as a late Father’s Day gift, but also have no idea what I’m doing. I was hoping to make something like this.

Idaho State Cribbage Board | Made In USA

Can anyone tell me what kind of wood to use, if it’s possible on the 350, which bits to use, I’m really at a loss besides just wasting potentially hundreds of dollars on hardwood just trying to figure it out.

They’re just using cheap plywood for theirs.
You can do the same or you can use softwoods to try out - pine and poplar work well and are cheap.
And then when you know what you’re doing, you can then do the final on better wood or hardwoods like oak, maple, walnut.
For bits the 3.175mm flat end bit that comes with the SM will work for cutting out the contour as well as the holes.
