Great Hotend Mechanism

Just wanted to say, that the new Hotend is (also) great! I just experimented with a 1mm nozzle and changing between Hotends is a breeze.

Hi,

Can you post a video how to change Nozzle tip on the SM2 please for noob like me ?

There already is an official Video:

By the way: I just printed TPU (flexible) filament. No problems, works out of the box. The whole new print head design is really awesome!

Isn’t it possible to just change the nozzle and not the hot end?

And what nozzle standard does it use?
(I’m very fond of using my large 1.2 nozzle for vase mode on my UM2). So hopefully I can use bigger ones on the snapmaker too.

I removed the hotend and then changed the nozzle and put it back in. I would not want to exert to much force on the whole head. I have some spares, so I will configure them with different nozzles, for quick change. Hopefully I can order some more hotends, soon…

I ordered a 1.2 nozzle from china. My biggest one yet is 1.0mm (for vase mode prints).

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has printed Nylon or Polycarbonate successfully.
Thanks :slight_smile:

Do you have to make any changes in LuBan before you start printing with the new smaller nozzle? I can’t seem to find a setting to change.

Hi, the only change you can make in Luban is the initial layer line width, reducing the value to output a smaller volume of the materials.

I would like to put on a 0.2 mm nozzle. What would u need to adjust it to? 50% because it’s half the size?

You can try within the range of 90-100%. The calculation is not exactly 1 to 1 at this moment.

That’s not going to do it! Luban DOESN’T have support for a different nozzle change.
Luban is rooted in Cura and the nozzle size is suppose to be part of the Machine configuration.
@parachvte? @whimsycwd? This is a short coming of Luban and Snapmakerjs.

Changing that value ONLY affects the very first layer and is not meant to indicate nozzle size.

I think your only option to use a different nozzle size is to use Cura or Simply3D.

Agree, we should put nozzle size configuration out later.

In the meantime you can change the diameter manually in the settings:

Open snapmaker_extruder_0.def.json under
C:\Program Files\Snapmaker Luban\resources\app\resources\CuraEngine\Config (or where ever you installed it)

change the parameter “machine_nozzle_size”:

    "machine_nozzle_size": {
        "default_value": 0.4
    },

Then restart Luban and it should take the settings.

Change “machine_nozzle_size” is not enough, this will affect “line_width” (wall, skin, infill, etc), the dependencies are complicated to change manually.

Hello,
To change the nozzle do I need to change the whole hot end unit? I cannot get the nozzle free from the hot end. I also ripped the Silicone sleeve on thr hot end. Am I able to order more hot ends?

Thank you,

Marie

I believe both the SM1 & 2 come with an extra hot end assembly. I believe there are instructions on how to change the whole hot end assembly in their FAQ. You have to heat it up to change just the nozzle and you should tighten it up when hot else it may come loose.

Hi Marie, here is the link to a video to help you with the process.

Currently we don’t sell hot ends individually. But you can contact our support at support@snapmaker.com for your request.

Great info. Two q’s: I can see teflon in the tube end of the hot end. How far does it go? What is your experience of it wearing down filament and/or itself?
2nd Q: When is Snapmaker launching its own nozzles with different diameters?

@staff Can you please answer that? :point_up_2:

I’m not staff but I have used up to a 1.0 standard Mk8 Brass nozzle on my A350.
