Support replied with a solution but I’m not in a position to test it:
Firmware 1.5.0 - Print Quality Degraded After Update (Improved After Downgrade + Full Recalibration)
Been suffering from same and worse issues with 1st layer since updating to 1.5. Updating to 1.5.1 fixed nothing, support provided some firmwares that also did nothing. Already did bed leveling, offset calibrations, changed the gcode as per their recommendation and much more. Do they do any testing at all or just push out untested code to people? It is very frustrating, support keeps recommending silly things like change the side of the plate, do this calibration again, do that again, etc etc, knowing well that i have already done all that and informed them about it. All this testing also takes long, its something that they should have done themselves before pushing this out. Printer has been useless since the day of the update. Factory reset and earlier version isnt helping either now. Perhaps something in the software damaged the hardware as well.
Sounds like an AI response.
Just go back to 1.4.1 until they sort it out.
Is there any reason not to be on the Paxx firmware?
I can see no reason for not flashing with Paxx firmware. I would suggest doing a full calibration after installing Paxx firmware.
I’m still catching up on this thread, but this isn’t great. A new mesh should not be required to have the correct z offset, assuming the last mesh is still valid.
Personally, I am reluctant to update to a newer firmware unless it is confirmed this is no longer a strict requirement.
Actually, I think I misread this.
Bed level and calibration are required after update. Are they also required with every print? (That would be strange.)
I agree. I strictly use adaptive mesh leveling. This always replaces the last known mesh.
I don’t want to try out and guineapig the latest firmwares just to find out my setup doesn’t work anymore.
For what it’s worth, I think I misread Zoe’s post. She seems to just be saying a one-time recalibration is needed after the initial update.
I hope your right, I think I’m gonna sit on my hands at least until PAXX releases his next full/stable release as it all feels alittle rushed atm?
Yes I agree. It honestly feels a bit like a lottery right now. I hope the next update will take care of it and not introduce new issues. Or maybe has better documentation in case some things need to be done after an upgrade.
For what it’s worth, I personally perform all calibration steps after each upgrade. And yes I use upgrade and update interchangeably 
I guess you’re hinting that not all updates turn out to be upgrades! 
They get upset about the distinction between “upgrade” and “update” in the Linux world, but it’s a fine point and a bit like the geographer’s idea that a mountain less than 1000m high can only be a hill.
I haven’t really made a distinction between these two terms either. I guess I’ll need to pay more attention to that going forward.
@Wombley Yes, previous firmware updates didn’t require redoing bed leveling and calibration. Versions 1.5.2 and 1.5.1 are a one-time exception this time.

I’ve interpreted it as the first print after firmware update, but the clarification I’ve requested should resolve the matter.
