I haven’t used my Snapmaker 2 in several months, I went out yesterday to set it up to do some laser burning and it seemed boot properly but when it went to home the laser nothing happened. I went to the control screen and tried to move the head/platform and nothing is responding. I went to one of the sub-screens and it says that no tool head is installed.

So, it’s obviously broken in some manner, is there a way to get some kind of diagnostic report that might help me figure out what in particular is broken?

If it’s sat for awhile, I would go over every single cable connection on the machine first. Some form of corrosion or oxidization might have happened so unplugging/replugging a few times might clean those up.

Grab the latest firmware, place it on the USB, and install it, just to make sure everything is on the same level. If it still doesn’t move, go into the settings \> about machine and see if it reports the machine type properly. It does this by reading the linear module length.

As stated check all the cables first. Do the easy stuff to begin with, If it’s just been sitting it should not be something too drastic.

I unplugged and reconnected all the easily accessible cables, according to the screen I’ve got the latest & greatest firmware. When do the Settings \> About Machine it reports that I have a SnapMaker Vulcan with a 0 x 0 x 0 work area.

Hi @StumbleRunner,
it’s really very strange :

> When do the Settings \> About Machine it reports that I have a **SnapMaker Vulcan** with a 0 x 0 x 0 work area.

🤔
In my opinion you should make a booting log which is very useful for diagnostics.
Connect Snapmaker to your computer with a USB cable and follow this guide : [https://support.snapmaker.com/…/360055487434-How-to-Get…](https://support.snapmaker.com/hc/en-us/articles/360055487434-How-to-Get-the-Booting-Log-of-the-Machine?fbclid=IwAR0ySY2-kZvFXVHnnFRgC64TMC8uSiClcbGkOIOo3DQ4A86U_0YcqaVK6SM)
You can show it here - then we can tell you more.

You said you have the latest firmware according to the screen… A while back there was a bugged FW that would not allow Wifi updates after it, so you had to update via USB, then go back to Wifi… Check you do actually have the latest FW versions.

Reseat and double check that X/Y/Z cables are in the proper place yet again (little extra contactor rub won’t hurt). It’s obviously not reading the linear rails. This could be a problem with either the linear modules, or the controller.

Download versions 1.13.2, 1.14.1 and 1.20.3 from the above link. Place all the .bin files on the USB drive, and ‘print’ them via the touchscreen like you would any project.

Run the 1.20.2 first and see if that fixes it. If not, run the 1.13.2, then check about machine, regardless of what it shows, run 1.14.1, then 1.20.3. That should ensure all firmware is up to date and matching. The Reason for the 1.13 is that’s before the module verification, then 1.14 adds that support in and updates the modules, then 1.20 is the latest. See if things come back online after that.

Just tried this on my laptop with a fresh install of Luban and the CH340 drivers. Rebooted and Luban doesn’t see the serial port at all, so just for grins and giggles I tried connecting via wi-fi, but it immediately disconnects, even before I get the chance to ‘allow’ the connection on the touchpad.

Okay, there are 2 different types of log files FW and SC. Even filtered down to just the stuff from the last time it worked and the first it didn’t and removing a bunch of duplicate lines, the two files end up being ~200 and ~1000 lines. Do I really want to upload them here in their entirety?

Do you have any spare parts like a toolheadcable?
Get any connection to a terminal over wifi or usb?
Did you already export your logs?

Okay, following the gcode reference i posted before you have following options for diagnostics:

Does the toolhead show up on the touchscreen?
I guess it’s not, this means your gcode would not show up because the “detected” toolhead is not the correct one.

Did you try to change to a new toolhead cable or other toolhead?
Sharing the logs would help also, maybe exporting works if you disconnect any toolhead.
